How do you turn an accident into “magic”? With glitter and a little magic!

Winter Sleigh

You see I usually have what I call gesso day. I will take a bunch of unfinished wood pieces that I have bought and gesso multiple times and then a few coats of white acrylic paint. Right before I heat set everything, my wonderful 98-pound boxer/hound “Brutus” got all excited and rushed into my room to give me a kiss and stepped right on my little sled.

And yep, it broke. So at this point, I could give up and throw it away or take it and run with it. You see the funny thing is I have a little ADHD/ADD, and I gesso this way because I will do multiple projects so I can have choices. And I had settled on my little sled but had a different idea for my project. And when this accident happened I figured it was meant to be…and went with it.

So to start this project I started with 2 coats of white gesso and 2 coats of white acrylic paint on an unfinished wooden sled. Then using Brutus Monroe Raven Detail Ink, an acrylic block I stamped several snowflakes “Gina K Designs Stamp’n Foil Baby It’s Cold Outside” on my little sled. Then using a heat tool, I heat set my stamped image.

Next, I used a scripted text stamp to add another layer.

For my next layer I attached lace, pearls, bells, buttons, and fibers on top of my stamped image. After this was dry, I dry brushed some white gesso on this layer, carefully not covering the image completely.

Next, I used a pallet knife and added: Gina K Designs Glitz Glitter Gel Iridescent and Brilliant Blue in different areas on this last layer. Then I put some Brutus Monroe Blue Aqua Pigment and sprayed some water on it. To finish this layer I added some crushed silver glass glitter.

At the bottom of the sled, I attached a “Magic” wooden piece that I had embossed. In the end, I was pretty pleased with how my project looked.

Yes, you can tell that something is a little cracked at the top, but I feel that adds another layer to this magical project! I hope you do too!
