Using an applique pressing sheet, layout your cupcake pieces. Removing paper backing and stacking as you go. Once satisfied, press in place. When cool remove from pressing sheet and place on mug rug background fabric. Fuse in place.

Fuse HeatNBond®Fusible Fleece to backside of backing fabric.

Using SprayNBond®Basting Adhesive spray the backside of the mug rug the appliques are fused on. Lay it on the fleece side of the backing fabric allowing excess around all sides.

Stitch down appliques as desired. Quilt or add some free motion tendrils.

Now you can waterproof your flag with HeatNBond Liquid Vinyl.

Lay your mug rug on a sheet of ThermOWeb Pressing Paper or parchment paper. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, paint a thin layer of vinyl on the back and let it dry. For more protection you can add up to 3 layers, letting it dry in between each one.

One coat: Fabric is water and stain-resistant. Two coats: Fabric is waterproof and stain-resistant. Three coats: Fabric is waterproof and stain-resistant with a semi-gloss oilcloth finish.

I use mug rugs when I’m at my computer and want it to catch any accidental spills and know my desk is protected, so I prefer to waterproof the backside of my mug rug only, with 3 coats. Allowing it to dry 30-45 minutes in between each coat.

To set the vinyl, preheat iron to medium heat with no steam. Place fabric on a firm protected surface (not an ironing board) and cover with ThermOWeb Pressing Paper. Press for 45 seconds moving iron slightly. Never touch iron directly on the vinyl. Liquid Vinyl will completely be ready for use in just 24 hours. It is machine washable in cold water and needs to be removed immediately and laid flat to dry.

Now you’re all ready for your sweet treat

Enjoy!
