I started with a scrap of watercolor paper that was large enough to foil and die-cut all of my leaves from. I used Tombow brush pens and an acrylic block to add color. I just scribble one color on the block, spritz it with water and smoosh it all over the paper. I also spritz the paper to help the ink move. This gives a good base of color. Then, to get the more defined “globs” I repeat without adding water to the paper. I also use a heat gun to dry the paper between each color. That really helps with “layering” your colors.

Then I heated my hot foil machine with the foil dies in place, added my hot foil with the color side down, and added the watercolor paper and my shims. Pressed the timer button and ran it through the die-cut machine to foil. I make a point to run the plates very slowly through the die cut machine with hot foil and pass back and forth a few times.

Next, I lined up the coordinating dies and cut out all of the beautiful leaves I created!

Moving on to my background. I inked up an A2 size piece of white cardstock with forest moss and peeled paint distress oxide ink. I splattered it with water and blotted it dry. Then I adhered it to a white card base.

I added foam squares to my leaves and played around with the final placement. Next, I cut a strip of black cardstock and hot foiled a sentiment from Everyday Sentiments II and adhered it to the left side with easy tear tape. I love this tape for adding strips. I always run a tape runner off the edge but can control the tape roll much easier.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project! Be sure to head over and look at all of the incredible colors of the new Thermoweb Hot Foil available in the shop now!
