Better Together Mixed Media Craft with Deco Foil

by Heather Collins

So I have a confession to make, I love Christmas ornaments…but not for on my Christmas tree but to use in my mixed media projects.  I will look high and low to find just the perfect ones to add to my stash, and then when I find inspiration I will grab just the perfect one for a project.  That is what happened with this Latte and Donut ornament.  When I want to use one for a project, I will remove the hook and/or string from the ornament.

To start this project I started by dirty wiping with a pallet knife and Deco Foil Transfer Gel DUO onto a piece of Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigment Paper.  I also used a pallet knife and Deco Foil™ Transfer Gel DUO” with a piece of Brutus Monroe Clear Acetate – 8.5″x11″ and Brutus Monroe Sweet Sprinkles | Mixed Media Stencil.

Once this is completely dry, I used my die-cutting machine to bond a piece of the Deco Foil Transfer Sheets in Wild Cherry with the Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigment Paper.  And a piece of Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets in Gold Static and the Brutus Monroe Clear Acetate Sheets.  Then with my Distress Oxides Ink Pad Custom Blend – created with Aqua Pigments Pink, Red-Violet, Coral, Red, and Violet and a blending brush I colored in the blank areas on the Aqua Pigment paper, this created one of a kind background piece.

Using Thermoweb’s Ultrabond Glue I attached the Aqua Pigment Paper, followed by the Acetate.  I used a knife to cut around the edges of the Tim Holtz Etcetera Thick Board – Small Tag.  Because the Glue dries clearly I didn’t have to worry about it showing through the acetate, just making sure to smooth it evenly around the edges and letting start to dry for 15 seconds before attaching.

Next, I created a frame with the Prima Moulds – Baroque Frames and the Amazing Casting Resin Kit.  It literally takes 30 seconds for this resin to prep and 10 minutes for it to set.  Then I painted with Brutus Monroe Gesso and after it was dried I painted with a metallic pink.  Lastly dry brush with cream and gold.

To finish the project I attached everything with Thermoweb’s Ultrabond Liquid Glue.  I made sure to add it to the back of the frame, ornament and all of the stickers.  The trick seems to let it start to dry for about 15 seconds before attaching everything.
