Hi there, Amy from Sew Incredibly Crazy here to show you that you don’t need an applique pattern to design and create your very own quilt.  Yes, believe me I know that the idea of creating something of your own can be very scary.  I totally get it. So let’s get a jump on a fun wintery quilt you’ll be happy to display!

Dashing Though the Snow Quilt with Blend Fabrics

Project Supplies:

HeatnBond® Lite
Blend Fabrics

Project Instructions:

To create this quilt, you will cut 60 rectangles for the body.  These are cut at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.  You can arrange them as desired.  For the applique part of the quilt,  you will need a piece of coordinating fabric of 10 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ for the background.

For the snow hills, take a sharpie marker and draw lines on the smooth side of a sheet of HeatnBond® Lite. Make them as desired, just remember that they will be reversed on the quilt.

These are nothing fancy.  You will then iron the HeatnBond® Lite to the wrong side of the fabrics.  Cut out the mountain shape, remove the backing and iron onto the background fabric. Applique around the hills.   For the words, you can trace them using your HeatnBond® Lite.  A great way to get different fonts is to use PicMonkey.  You can also reverse the words while using this photo editor.   Make you saying and iron it in place.

For the trees, take scraps of fabric and your HeatnBond® Lite iron it to the wrong side of several fabrics.  Cut triangles of several different sizes.  You can use one as a pattern to create more triangles of the same shape.

Lay them to your liking onto your quilt top.  Remove the paper backing and iron in place.

Applique around your trees

and around your saying.

Quilt, Bind and Enjoy. See, pretty easy.  I hope that you now will try your hand at designing your own quilt. I know that I will enjoy seeing all these bright and beautiful Blend fabrics hanging on my wall through the winter season.
