Using EZ Print Quilt Block Sheets for Hand Embroidery with Tula Pink
Hi friends! Alicia here from Sew What Alicia. I am so excited to be sharing this fun project with you. Tula Pink’s new Coloring with Thread book is so fun and all the patterns are amazing!
Using EZ Print Quilt Block Sheets for Hand Embroidery with Tula Pink
Supplies:
DMC Embroidery Thread (Scroll down to see the colors I used.)
Tote Bag or T-Shirt
Embroidery Hoop
Instructions:
The quilt sheets are perfect for adding hand embroidery to fabrics that are not as sturdy. It also adds great stability to thicker fabrics.
Print the pattern you want to embroider onto the quilt sheet. You can change your printer settings to make the image darker or use a Sharpie to trace the image. This will help you transfer the pattern to your fabric. Use your light box or even a window to transfer your pattern.
Use a fine point marker (like Sharpie) to transfer the pattern.
Place your hoop over both the tote (or shirt) and the quilt sheet. Make sure and only place the hoop over one side of the hoop or shirt!! You don’t want to embroider through both sides.
Pull the fabric and the quilt sheet tight. It should be so tight that you can tap it like a drum. Embroider using your favorite stitches. See below to see the stitches I used. New to embroidery check out THIS tutorial for a walkthrough of all these stitches.
Around the face, I used a layered backstitch in various oranges. Then I backstitched around the entire body including all the tentacles. Last I satin stitched the suckers and added a french knot on top of the satin stitched sucker. Use backstitch and a french knot to complete the eyes. See below for the various DMC floss colors used in the octopus.
Remove the hoop and trim the quilted sheet.
Now you’re finished! Isn’t this the cutest little octopus pattern?
