Stylish Get Well Cards with Gina K. Designs and Deco Foil

Every now and then someone we know is injured or becomes ill. Whether it’s a minor illness or a serious injury, this act of kindness can go a long way to helping them feel better. One way to do that is through hand-made get well cards. Today I’m sharing how to create a set of get well cards using a free printable and Therm O Web Deco Foil.™

Print and Die Cut the Sentiments

Begin by printing out the sentiments using a laser printer or have the PDF printed at your local print store. Each of these sentiments was sized to be die cut out using the smallest dies from the Gina K Designs Wafer Thin Nested Double Stitched Dies. Center the sentiment within the die, and use low tack tape to hold it in place. Then all you have to do is die cut it using a manual die cut machine, such as a Cuttlebug or Sizzix Big Shot.

Deco Foil the Sentiments

Next, cover each printed sentiment with your choice of Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheets. Run this through your pre-heated laminator and peel off the transfer sheet to reveal your foiled sentiment. Your Deco Foiled and die cut sentiments are now ready to add to the card of your choice.

Heat Embossed and Watercolor Background

For the card examples shared here, I used a large stamp to create the background design. To achieve a similar look, stamp a large image onto a piece of Gina K Designs Premium Cardstock in White using Versamark Embossing Ink. Sprinkle the image with white embossing powder and tap off the excess powder. Use a heat gun to heat emboss the image.

The watercolor look was achieved using Distress Ink, water and a paint brush. Stamp the ink onto a craft mat and add water using a large paint brush. Mix the water and paint and then apply the paint to the heat embossed design by tapping the brush onto the paper. Use your heat gun to dry the ink. Take care to keep the heat gun moving and stay about 5-6 inches away from the paper to avoid burning the paper. Repeat adding ink and drying the ink until you are pleased with the look. You can also flick the paint brush to add a little drop of paint if desired.

Because I did not use watercolor paper, the paper warped more than normal. To attach the finished panel to your card front, I recommend iCraft Easy-Tear Tape. It’s my favorite adhesive when it comes to adhering paper that has been watercolored!

Get Well Cards with Printable Sentiments and Therm O Web Deco Foil

As you can see in my get well card samples, I created three different designs using three different colors of ink and Deco Foil.

I used a mostly monochromatic color palette to make these a little faster to create. However, you can use a variety of colors or even the recipient’s favorite colors when you create your card.
