Hi, it’s Molly with Sew Wrong Sew Right and I want to tell you about my latest addiction! My very favorite Thermoweb product has now officially become HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece. I am going through so much of it I usually order 10 packages at a time! Though it is not perfectly suited for a soft cozy quilt, I find that most of the things I like to make most- small projects like quilted handbags and home decor items- benefit from the strudy nature for the fleece and the body and stiffness it adds to a 3 dimensional item. I won’t make a handbag with anything else, and I don’t need to use any other interfacing to give the bag enough body- the bags come out just perfect every time.
I consider free motion quilting my quilty specialty and I absolutely love the look of my quilting on top of fabric fused with fusible fleece. It is better than any other basting method for showing off free motion quilting. I just used a few packages of it to make a dog bed with one of the three quilt tops I made out of the Blend Fabrics with plans to make 2 more with the other tops. It was the perfect batting for the project as dogs can be hard on their beds (mine sure are) and this is much tougher in nature than traditional batting. I love how it turned out and it seem one of the three dogs is always laying on it.
The HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece really helps it keep in it’s nice boxy shape even though half of it is filled with bean bag fill. This bed wouldn’t have been what it is without the fleece- so next time you are making something other than a quilt that requires batting think about using some- I think you will find it as addictive as I do.
To go along with our fun Quilt Week we’d like to give you a chance to win some fun goodies including this NEW Idea Book from Designer Christina Cameli! It’s the perfect book to get you started on free-motion quilting!
