Hi Everyone, Jacquelynne here! Thanks to the folks at Thermoweb for having me here today to tell you all about my upcoming FREE Block of the Month! They have also generously agreed to be sponsors for this fun event!
It’s called Maggie’s First Dance and it will have 5 different blocks. You will have the following options for making your blocks, so there’s something for everyone. And every block pattern has step-by-step instructions with lots of diagrams:
*you can just piece them
*OR you can applique them (hand or machine- I did machine applique)
*OR you can do simple hand embroidery (just 2 super easy stitches- the backstitch and French knots- plus I have a YouTube tutorial for those stitches)
I love doing machine applique, because it’s so quick and easy. For machine applique, I recommend Thermoweb’s Heat n Bond® Lite– it’s the only product I use! I’ve tried a lot of fusibles, but Heat n Bond Lite is not too thin and not too heavy- if fusible is too thin, it’s impossible to peel that paper backing off! And if it’s too heavy, it adds too much bulk to your projects. Here is a block I did with the Heat n Bond® Lite:
When you sign up, you will receive information about fabric requirements, a free quilt coloring sheet, and more fun goodies. You will receive one block pattern per month in your email beginning on June 6, 2016, and in November you will receive the border instructions. We will also have blog hops with fabulous prizes, like Thermoweb products, thread, and sewing books. Featured bloggers will show you their blocks as they progress and give you ideas about fabric choices and tips so you can get inspired!
Why is it called Maggie’s First Dance, you may ask? The colors kind of remind me of a vintage farmhouse, maybe somewhere with a big old red barn, perfect for holding square dances. I imagined my grandmother, named Margaret, going to these dances with her sisters and her “beau”- of course, that would be my grandfather!
If you’d like to join our Free Block of the Month, just click here for all of the information and to sign up. And yes, it’s totally FREE! I hope you will sew along with us! And thanks again to Thermoweb for being a sponsor!
