These bright fruity fabrics from Blend Fabrics really get me in the mood for summer.  We love to eat outside on warm, sunny days, so I thought a few fruity lunch bags would be just the thing to make for picnics in the park. Plus these make wonderful gift ideas for teachers, friends..you name it. Who would not want to carry an adorable bag?!

Lunch Bag Instructions:

Before sewing according to the tutorial above, I added HeatnBond® Iron-on Vinyl to the right sides of all pieces of my printed fabrics, both the lining and the outer fabrics according to directions on the packaging.

I modified this tutorial a bit by adding a handle to the back of the bag.  To do this, cut a strip of fabric 2 1/2″ wide and about 14″ long (it will be trimmed).  Then cut a piece of StitchnSew sew-in fleece about 1″ wide and 14″ long.  Created a strap and turn it inside out, topstitching the edges to create a nice handle.  I zig zag stitched the ends closed.  BEFORE sewing the outer pieces together, add the handle to the patterned piece with the flap on it, folding the ends of the strap under and sewing securely with backstitching.

Once finished, I found that the vinyl looked a bit “wrinkled”, but I easily fixed that by running my iron over the bag using the pressing sheet from the vinyl package.

Super cute and fast project.  Can’t wait for our picnic!
