Hello and welcome!
It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today. For today’s tutorial, I am going to show you how to make jewelry beads using fabric. What is fantastic about this project is it can be made with 1″ scraps of fabric!
This project is also great for kids and scout groups!
Fabric Jewelry Beads
Supplies:
- HeatnBond Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive
- SpraynBond Fabric Stiffener Spray
- Fabric Scraps
- Oliso Iron
- Olfa Cutting Mat and Rotary Cutter
- Recycled Paper Bead Maker (optional) OR a wooden skewer
- Assorted Beads
- Alphabet Beads
- Stretch Magic String or similar.
Instructions:
Begin by sorting through your fabric scraps. Your bead size will be determined by the size of your fabric. For this project, I cut my fabric to a little larger than 2″ x 7″ so I can get 2 cuts out of it. You will want it slightly larger so you can trim it down after the next step but don’t be afraid to use those small 1″ scraps of fabric leftover from your projects!
Next…
Spray your fabric with the fabric stiffener spray. With pressing or parchment paper, press your dampened fabric till it is stiff and dry. Then, trim the fabric piece down to 1″ x 7″.
Next…
Cut your fabric from corner to corner creating 2 long triangles. Trim off the pointy tips. To create the fabric beads you will simply roll or wind the fabric up starting with the wider end with either a bead winding tool or kitchen skewer. Add HeatnBond Fabric Fuse to the fabric at least halfway up the fabric to secure.
