Nothing beats seeing fabric collections put together and coordinated for us. Be it jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm packs, or fat quarters, we love them all.

This is a fat quarter friendly quilt, I like to call “Sweet Dominos”.

It started with this “bundle of joy” that I’ve been “watching over”, for quite some time now.

I do love “Tootsie Rolls” and these fun fabrics are calorie-free!

Supplies

You will need a fat quarter stack or any precut large enough to allow you to cut 3.5 x 6.5 rectangles. A total of 160 is needed.

Here’s some helpful information about precuts from our friends at the Fat Quarter Shop!

And this is a great graphic from our friends at Missouri Star Quilt Co. As you shop the various brands you’ll find often each company will alter the amount of how many pieces in a precut.

1/2 yard white fabric for the border

1/2 yard black fabric for “stones”

HeatNBond® Lite by the yard (my choice for this project)

HeatNBond® EZ Print Lite (if you do not want to do a lot of tracing)

For this project…the absolute must was my bowl of Tootsie Rolls and Pops!

The free pattern is “Bricks and Stones”, from MaryQuilts.com

It’s a fun pattern, for all skill levels.  The “bricks” are just 2 rectangles stitched together, and the “stones” are appliqued on top, using HeatnBond fusible web.

I changed up the “stones” layout, from the pattern and added a couple of extra’s for that “Domino” look.

You can download the pattern  HERE
While your there, check out all the free patterns Mary has to offer. You will be looking at your precuts, in a whole new light.

Here’s a little tip… I love to save the ribbons that many fat quarter bundles come with, and attach them to my quilt sleeve before I stitch it to the quilt! It’s my “reference file” I guess you might say.

“Sew” what would be your favorite “Fat Quarter” treat?

til next time…Keep on Stitchin’
