It’s Unconventional Week here at Therm O Web. And if you’re asking that means…we’ll be glad to hear. We recently caught a fun card made by designer Justin Atkins. He used a Halloween stamp and die set to make an adorable Valentine card. We call that unconventional and definitely thinking outside the creative box.
So this week is all about that…using unexpected items for projects that perhaps offer new life to those! Be sure to join us as our designers have some amazing projects to share PLUS we’ll have a Facebook Live this Wednesday evening at 7pm with Justin who inspired this week’s theme! Set a reminder to join us!
Beachy Cards with Deco Foil DUO Transfer Gel
By: Heather Collins
Sometimes when you buy something you have an idea in mind, but then you get started and it evolves into something more. Taking something and making a piece that you never expected is a great way of stretching your craft supplies. This is what happened when I decided to make different cards using the same main product.
To start this project I cut my Brutus Monroe Perfect Blend Paper 3.5” by the length of the paper and took ½” off. I scored the leftover paper at 3.5” and folded it in half. Then I sprayed iCraft Removable Pixie Spray on Brutus Monroe Slim Line Stencil – Sea Skin and waved it in the air for 15 seconds then laid it on my 3.4”x8.5”.
Using my blending brushes I ink blended Pink Fresh Ink starting with the lightest color over the entire slimline front, then worked the mediums and darks onto the card for the mermaid front. Then I flipped the stencil over and did the same for the pineapple front. I trimmed off a ¼” off of all sides.
I moved the stencil down a little so that I could add some Deco Foil Transfer Gel Duo to the bottom of the swoops of the stencil. This has to dry completely before you go to the next step. You can use the Duo Gel either with a die-cutting machine or laminator. You can tell when it is dry when it is clear and not wet anymore. I ran it through my Minc Machine twice using the Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets, Gold Static.
Next, I ran the sheets through the Minc Machine with Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets, Gold Static. I layered on the back of this a piece of Eileen Hull Easy-Cut Adhesive Sheets. Then using the die cutting machine I cut out the word ‘hello’ with this.
For the shadowed piece I cut it out using the Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets, Tuscan Gold. To finish the cards I attached the ‘hello’ to the front of my cards using foam tape. Then I picked out a coordinating Studio Light Essentials Slimline Paper Pad – Floral Colors for each card and added Gina K. Designs Terrific Tape, 1/2″ to create the layered front to the card.
Although the stencil was the same and same sentiment, I think I achieved two different looks. I also did a third that I like to call “sunrise”, since I just couldn’t stop ink blending and creating.
