Inspired but the beautiful balloons in Blend Fabrics “Flutter and Float” by Ana Davis I designed this oversized appliqued hot air balloon pillow with pieced border.

Basic Sewing Supplies: sewing machine, rotary cutting tools, hand sewing tools.
Up, Up and Away Hot Air Balloon Pillow Instructions:
To create the pieced border:
Cut 2 inch x WOF strips of 4 prints. Sew strips together lengthwise with 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press seams to one side with Oliso Iron.
Cut stripe unit into 7 inch squares.
Place 2 square face to face with stripes of one square unit perpendicular to other square unit.
Stitch around squares edges with 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Cut stitched square diagonally from corner to corner. This will create 4 half square triangles. Press seam open. Square up.
Piecing 7 half square triangle units from top and bottom boarders and 5 half square triangle units for side boarders. Sew boarder pieces to center piece, sides first then top and bottom.
Place cloud and balloon applique’ pieces and press to HeatnBond® Feather Lite, then press in place. Back pillow top with StitchnSew™ Fleece Sew-In High Loft and stitch around each applique’.
Machine quilt pillow top.
Stitch pillow top to pillow back leaving opening to turn. Turn right side out and fill with desired fluff. Hand sew opening closed. If in the mood for a small quilt use pillow back fabric before machine quilting then add a binding.
