Hello, Therm O Web friends! Designer Tamara here again with a SUPER cute felt Christmas light garland. I really enjoyed making this and you can customize it to your favorite colors to match your decor. I created mine to match my pre-teen daughter’s room.

Felt Christmas Light Garland with Sew-in Fleece

Supplies:

Therm O Web Stitch n Sew™ Sew-In Fleece

Therm O Web Spray n Bond® Basting Adhesive

Felt (use a wool-blend or 100% wool felt.)

A metallic felt or other ‘metallic’ material. I used a silver tinsel felt found on Etsy.

Matching thread for the bulbs

Marking pens

Scissors

Pinking shears

Metallic twine

Bulb template (mine was hand drawn. Try searching online or using a die cutter to cut a template)

Felt Christmas Light Garland with Sew-in Fleece Instructions:

g3

I started out by sewing about a 1.5″ strip of the tinsel felt onto the edges of the solid felt. Then I trimmed the seam and pressed flat with an iron. Next I traced my bulb template with an ‘air erase’ pen. Be sure to line the top ‘metal’ part of the bulb up just right.

g5

Layer your felt with the felt/tinsel piece on the front, then a light mist of Spray n Bond, set the StitchnSew Sew-In fleece over the Spray n Bond. Add another light layer of Spray in bond to the Sew-In fleece, then set your back piece of felt over that. Press together to secure. I did NOT add tinsel felt to the back pieces. (shown in the photo is the last/back layer on top)

g6

After creating all my felt and fleece ‘sandwiches’ I sewed the layers together. I stitched right around the traced bulb pattern line. I also added a fun messy zig-zag stitch to the top of the bulbs. Cut each bulb out with a strong pair of pinking shears. Mine are Fiskars brand.

g8

After all the bulbs are sewn and cut out, take some twine and create the garland. As you see from the above close-up shot I wrapped my twine around each bulb about 5 times and then secured each in the back with a dot of hot glue. Make sure you leave long enough ‘tails’ for hanging!

Enjoy!
