I love making handmade holiday ornaments every year. They are a fun addition to our tree, and make great gifts, too. Love how a little ornament looks tied to the top of my holiday packages.
This year, I crafted up some adorable shabby chic stockings to share using beautiful Holiday Bouquet fabric from Blend, our product partner here on the Therm O Web blog this week.
Blend Holiday Bouquet Stocking Ornaments by Designer Audrey Pettit
Supplies:
Therm O Web StitchnSew™ Sew-in Fleece Interfacing
Therm O Web PeelnStick™ Fabric Fuse Tape
Blend Holiday Bouquet Fabric
Button: Craft Supply
Hemp: May ArtsPinking Shears
Here’s how:
Download and print the stocking pattern. Pin pattern to the fabric and cut one stocking. Flip the pattern over and pin to fabric again, cutting one additional stocking shape.
Cut two stockings from Stitch n’ Sew sew-in interfacing.
Cut two panels of contrasting fabric that are 2 1/4″ square. Cut two panels of sew-in interfacing that are 2 1/4″ x 2 1/2″. Pin the fabric to the interfacing so that the top edges are flush and the bottom interfacing extends 1/4″ beyond the fabric. Sew along the bottom edge of the fabric. Cut the bottom of the interfacing with pinking shears.
Back each stocking fabric piece with the stocking interface pieces, and place both on top of the stitched fabric squares, tops flush. Sew along the top edge.
Fold up the tops and then pin the two stocking pieces together, right sides facing. Stitch around the stockings, leaving the top open.
Turn the stockings and fold the tops over and down.
Tear strips of fabric that are approximately 1″ wide to create bows for the top.
Place Fabric Fuse Tape onto the back of the fabric strip and tie it around the top of the stocking. Add a big bow. Cut a small strip of fabric and fold it over to create a tab. Secure it to the inside of the stocking with more Fabric Fuse.
Enjoy your ornaments as is, or if you’re like me and like things on the shabby chic side, give your ornaments a grungy finish by dipping them in coffee or tea. Let them dry completely and then hand stitch a big red button to the center of the bow.
Fill with greens and treats, and enjoy!
