Wish and Wonder Wall Organizer
Greetings friends! It’s Belinda from Blue Ribbon Designs, here with a brand new project tutorial featuring a fun assortment of my favorite HeatnBond products. Today, I am excited to share my “Wish and Wonder Wall Organizer” with you.

Lately, I’ve been on an organization kick—because let’s be honest, back-to-school season is basically the unofficial New Year for fresh starts! So I whipped up a project that’s perfect for tidying up your desk or table space: a stylish wall organizer made from wool blend felt and cotton fabric. It’s got all the charm of trendy stiffened felt organizers, but with a cozy, customizable twist. I even added a sweet bird applique for a pop of personality, though it looks just as fabulous plain or with your own creative flair. Whether you’re a kid, teen, or adult, this organizer is a game-changer for storing everything from stationery and sewing supplies to cross stitch kits and art tools. And as a bonus, I’ll show you how to make matching fabric-covered binder clips—because why not make organizing cute and coordinated?
Let’s get creative! Simply gather the materials/supplies listed below, then download the pattern with PDF templates and organizer layout image.
*NOTE*: This tutorial requires basic sewing and appliqué knowledge. If you need additional assistance to piece your wall organizer, search/visit the Internet, or look at a basic sewing book to learn the fundamentals.

How to Make a Wish and Wonder Wall Organizer
(12 ½” x 19”)
Download and print the Wish and Wonder Wall Organizer PDF.
Wish and Wonder Wall Organizer – A Project for the Therm O Web Blog
- Print actual size – do NOT “fit to page” or “shrink to fit.”
- Print pages 1 – 2 on regular printer paper.
- Print pages 3 – 4 on HeatnBond Lite EZ-Print Iron-On Adhesive Sheets (or trace shapes on HeatnBond Lite)
Prepare Felt Background
- Apply the 13” x 21” piece of HeatnBond Craft Extra Firm Non-Woven Interfacing to the wrong side of the 13” x 21” piece of wool blend felt background.
- Pre-heat iron to a wool setting, no steam. (I chose a wool setting instead of high, to protect my wool blend felt – it took a bit more time to fuse with the lower heat.)
- Place the rough side of the fusible interfacing against the wrong side of the background fabric (if using wool blend felt, there is no wrong side).
- Cover with a lightweight, dry pressing cloth.
- Press and hold iron with medium pressure for 10-15 seconds (I did 25-30 seconds on a wool setting).
- Repeat by lifting iron to new area, slightly overlapping previous area until the entire surface is bonded.
- Allow it to cool.

Create Fabric Pockets
- Apply HeatnBond Heavy Weight Non-Woven Fusible Interfacing to the back of each of the three pocket fabric pieces.
- Pre-heat iron to a high setting, no steam.
- Place the rough side of the fusible interfacing against the wrong side of the pocket fabric.
- Cover with a lightweight, dry pressing cloth.
- Press and hold iron with medium pressure for 10-15 seconds. Repeat by lifting iron to new area, slightly overlapping previous area until the entire surface is bonded.
- Allow it to cool.
- Fold each pocket fabric in half lengthwise and press. Top stitch a ¼” from the fold. The top pocket will measure 13” x 4”. The middle pockets will each measure 13” x 6”.

Prepare Appliqué Shapes
- Apply HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive to the back of coordinating fabrics (use the layout diagram on Page 2 of the pattern PDF to assist).
- Print or trace the applique shapes (pages 3 – 4 in the pattern PDF) on HeatnBond Lite Iron-on Adhesive.
- Loosely Cut apart.
- Pre-heat iron to medium heat, no steam.
- Place the printed/traced template shapes on the wrong side of fabrics (printed paper, smooth side, should be face up).
- Place and hold the iron on the paper for 2-3 seconds.
- Allow it to cool.
- Cut or trim the shapes on the printed/traced lines to create the desired shapes. Leave paper in place until ready to fuse in place.

Create Bottom Appliqué Pocket
- Apply the applique shapes. Using the layout diagram provided on Page 2 of the pattern PDF as a guideline, fuse the appliqué shapes in place on the bottom half of the 13” x 14” wool blend felt pocket fabric. Attach shapes using your favorite machine appliqué stitch(es) – the model used straight stitch.
- Preheat iron to medium heat, No steam.
- Place template shapes, adhesive side down, on the bottom half of the pocket felt. Press and hold iron for 6 seconds on each section until the entire piece is bonded.
- Machine sew along edges. Optional: place a HeatnBond Tear-Away Stabilizer Sheet under the wool felt when sewing the shapes in place to stabilize the felt and keep the appliqué stitches nice and flat. Once the sewing is complete, tear away the stabilizer.
- Fold the wool felt in half lengthwise and press. Top stitch a ¼” from the fold. The bottom appliqué pocket will measure 13” x 7”.

Add Pockets to Background
- Attach the top pocket. Measure 3” down from the top of the background felt and place the top of the pocket. Baste the sides in place. Sew a ¼” seam across the bottom of the pocket. Sew dividing seams, if desired. The model pocket was divided into three sections.
- Attach the second pocket. Measure 6 ¼” from the top of the background felt and place the second pocket – it will cover some of the top pocket. Baste the sides in place. Sew a ¼” seam across the bottom of the pocket. Sew dividing seams, if desired. The model pocket was divided into two sections.
- Attach the third pocket. Measure 10” from the top of the background felt and place the third pocket – it will cover some of the second pocket. Baste the sides in place. Sew a ¼” seam across the bottom of the pocket. Sew dividing seams, if desired. The model pocket was not divided.
- Attach the bottom pocket. Line the bottom pocket up with the bottom and sides of the background felt. Baste the sides and bottom in place.

Assemble the Organizer
- Place the backing felt against the right side of the combined background felt with pockets. Line up the bottom and sides. Clip or pin in place.
- Sew all three sides with a ¼” seam allowance. Leave the top open.
- Clip corners. Turn right side out.
- Press.
- Fold 1 ½” of the top over to the back side of the organizer and stitch in place with a straight stitch. This will close the opening and make a tunnel for the quilt hanger (or use a wooden dowel and twine/ribbon for hanging).

Cover Binder Clips
- Apply HeatnBond Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Adhesive to the back of fabric. For a medium binder clip, I cut my fabric 1 ¼” x 1 ⅞” and cut a HeatnBond Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Adhesive Sheet into 1 ¼” x 1 ⅞” pieces to match. Alternatively, you can use HeatnBond Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Adhesive Tape cut to 1 ¼” pieces (which fits the binder clip well).
- Cut adhesive sheet to the cut size of the fabric. Peel off paper liner.
- Place fabric face-up onto adhesive and press firmly. I used a wooden pressing stick to help with adhering the adhesive.
- Partially peel off paper backing and slowly apply to binder clip. Apply to one side and top. Then remove the rest of the paper and press onto the other side. The adhesive sheet is quite sticky, so take your time and slowly remove the paper backing.
- Rub with firm pressure, especially around edges, I used my thumb and a wooden pressing stick – applying heavy, consistent pressure.
- Any excess fabric can easily be removed or trimmed with an Olfa Craft Knife.
