Happy New Year to my sewing friends!!! I don’t know about you but I was so excited to get started on a completely new project! I recently revamped a vintage metal kitchen rolling cart by painting it and updating it for my coffee station in my kitchen and I love how it came out so much. However, I have been wanting a waterproof mat under my coffee pot and decided that now is the time to make one and try out the Thermoweb HeatnBond Iron-On Vinyl and see what I think about it! And guess what? I absolutely love how it worked in this project and how nice it looks on my coffee station. I think these would make amazing placemats as well!
You’ll need the following supplies for this project:
- Thermoweb Pressing Paper
- Thermoweb HeatnBond Fusible Fleece
- Thermoweb HeatnBond Iron-on Vinyl
- Thermoweb HeatnBond Fusible Interfacing Light Weight
- Fabric scraps for patchwork
- Fabric for backing
- Iron
- Other miscellaneous sewing supplies
I used 2.5 inch strips of fabric that I cut to 2.5 inch squares. But a 2.5 inch Charm Pack would work great for this project as well.
I’ve written a free pattern and tutorial that you can download HERE. It has all the instructions, tips, suggestions and it steps you through the process of working with HeatnBond Iron-On Vinyl.
You’ll especially love the tutorial on how to get the perfectly lined up patchwork squares by using a great trick with HeatnBond Fusible Liteweight Interfacing. It is a game changer! So click HERE to print my tutorial and let’s get one made!
I’m really happy that I FINALLY made this mat for my coffee station! I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now and it really does just wipe clean! I love how simple it was to work with the HeatnBond Iron-On Vinyl and I’m excited to try more projects using it!
