Like the other gals on the Therm O Web team, I’m smitten with the “Smitten” collection from Authentique! There are so many beautiful patterns in this line and I love that the papers are double-sided and made from a heavyweight, slightly textured stock. This Valentine’s Day garland is a fun way to mix and match many of the pieces.
As a bonus, when Valentine’s is over, you can remove the hearts from the garland and use them on a scrapbook page, pocket page layout, or card.
White thread was used as the base of the garland and to keep it simple, I attached each heart to the thread using iCraft tape. If you wanted to create a double-sided garland, just remove the liner from the iCraft and attach a corresponding heart to the back. If you want to recycle the hearts from the garland, all you will need to do is peel them off the thread and they will already have adhesive on them and ready to attach to the next project!
After experimenting with baker’s twine, paper floss, and fishing line, I decided that the white thread was the most flexible and let the garland drape naturally.
The hearts were cut using a Silhouette. To make the thin heart frames easier to adhere, I added iCraft adhesive™ to the back of the cardstock before they were cut, also using a Silhouette. A few additional shapes were die cut directly from the iCraft adhesive™ and used to adhere glitter.
Peel off one side of the liner and adhere to the heart, then peel off the protective liner from the top…
and sprinkle with glitter. This is by far my favorite adhesive to use with glitter – no mess, no fuss.
I love the way it turns out – the edges are so clean. There is no way I could get such a clean edge using a liquid adhesive to adhere the glitter.
It works especially well with intricate shapes, such as the flourish on the pink heart in the top row. You can also see how narrow the heart frame is on white script heart – having iCraft on the back of the paper turns this into a sticker and makes it so easy to apply.
3D Foam Squares were used to adhere several of the embellishments, such as the roses and arrow die cut and the small heart die cut seen here.
Zots™ for Bling are perfect for securing rhinestones.
Thanks so much for visiting today! I hope you enjoyed this project idea. 🙂
