Start by downloading the free pattern “Ugly Sweater Mini Wall Hanging” here.
The pattern is HeatNBond EZ Print Lite, friendly. No tracing is required. Just pop a sheet in your printer and hit the print button. It’s not to late to add that to your holiday list and makes a great stocking stuffer!
Cutting and Construction
Cut 1 – 12 ½” x 14 ½” piece for background
Cut 1 – 13” x 15” piece of backing fabric and fusible fleece
Cut 2 – 2 ¼” x WOF (width of fabric) for binding
Fuse HeatNBond®Fusible Fleece to the backside of background fabric. It not only provides a nice stable surface for stitching appliques, but it keeps your projects nice and flat. I love using it on small wall hangings, as well as table runners and toppers.
Rough cut the applique shapes and fuse to the backside of your fabrics. When cool cut out and arrange on an applique pressing sheet. Fuse in place. When cool, remove from the pressing sheet and lay on your quilt top. Fuse in place.
Place your sweater mini, the wrong side up on an old sheet or towel. Using SprayNBond®Basting Adhesive, spray the backside and lay the backing, right side up, on top. You can now take this quilt sandwich to your machine and stitch the appliques down as desired. Quilt, sew micro buttons to the tree, and attach the binding.
You are now ready to rock your “Ugly Sweater”.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!
