Happy November my friends! Oh my goodness has it been fun designing and sewing with this absolutely adorable fabric called Thimbelina, designed by Jennifer Long. Whenever I sew with a new collection of fabric, I like to leave it sitting on my sewing table where I can see it, feel it, handle it and let it speak to me! When I first saw this fabric I immediately felt like it would be absolutely adorable in little doll baby bedding and I was right!

This fabric collection feels like pages from an enchanted storybook — whimsical and full of hidden magic. The designs feature tiny thimbles and needle and thread nestled among ferns and flowers, hinting at secret sewing circles deep in the forest! The pinks, turquoise and golds are absolutely so gorgeous. I mean… zoom in on those adorable thimbles and little creatures with needle and thread!!

I have a young friend with a little three-year-old who absolutely loves her dolls. So I gave her a call and asked, “Does Esther happen to have a doll cradle and baby that I could borrow?” She did — and from that moment on, it was pure inspiration and fun all the way! (And bonus… Esther gets a new bedding set for her baby!)

I made a simple little quilt for the cradle with tiny fussy cut patchwork and lace. It is sweet and it makes me happy. Thermoweb’s HeatnBond Fusible Fleece made it easy to fuse Thimbelina’s tiny patchwork prints without any distortion. I chose to hand quilt it with matching dusty pink embroidery thread. I added a little touch of lace at the top of the quilt and it gave it a soft and feminine finish. I love all the adorable little prints so much.

A little pillow rests at the top of the doll cradle, soft and dainty, just the right size for a doll’s head. I wanted to incorporate some sweet bows somewhere in the project, and that’s when inspiration struck – I attached them to each side of the pillow, where they trail off the cradle! It added just the right touch of charm to the design.

And of course… who could stop there? I had to make a little dress for the baby. I used the beautiful turquoise and pink fabric, with a little touch of lace for this charming little dress. (Side note: it was supposed to be a baby gown… but it turned out to be a dress! Smile!).
And that fluffy plush mattress using a coordinating gingham check fabric… how cozy does that look?

This fabric collection feels romantic and nostalgic, perfect for projects that tell a story — little quilts, children’s garments, or heirloom keepsakes infused with a touch of fairytale wonder. You will love this fabric and along with Thermoweb products it is a perfect combination!
