Most children love Counting down the days to Christmas, and with these adorable mittens that double as tree ornaments, you can create a new family tradition in a few hours!
“Quick-As-Can-Be Countdown to Christmas” No-SEW Mitten Project
As always, read through the steps below BEFORE beginning.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Fabric Panel: Comfort and Joy by My Mind’s Eye for Riley Blake Designs
- 23” x 42” (same size as the panel) piece of felt in coordinating color (red was used)
- Heat n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-on Adhesive
- Fabric Fuse Adhesive
- scissors
- Iron
- Twine or ribbon for loops
“Quick-As-Can-Be Countdown to Christmas” No-SEW Mitten Project Instructions:
STEP ONE: On an iron safe surface, adhere HeatnBond Ultra Hold Iron-on Adhesive to back of panel following directions on the packaging.
STEP TWO: Adhere back of panel to felt with iron following directions. (Felt is usually the same of both sides, so it doesn’t matter which side you adhere to.)
STEP THREE: Trim mittens following the outline. You will have 25 fronts and 25 backs.
STEP FOUR: Place 25 front of mittens to coordinating backs on flat surface. You’ll need to let them sit flat for a while to dry after adhering together, so make sure your surface is large enough.
STEP FIVE: Loops: cut 25 pieces approx. 5” long and knot ends together.
STEP SIX: Following Fabric Fuse Adhesive directions, place a line of adhesive to create seam around back (felt side) of each mitten front and place onto the (felt side) of each coordinating mitten back, adding a loop to upper corner with extra Fabric Fuse to secure loop.
(Paper clips were used to add pressure to keep pieces together where the loop is added. until dry. See photo below)
Now run an additional line of Fabric Fuse around the outer edge of each mitten for extra strength. Lay flat. MAKE SURE TO KEEP TOP OF MITTEN OPEN. DO NOT ADHERE ACROSS TOP.
Let sit until dry, approx. 3-4 hours.
That’s it! How easy! Yay!
Now you can fill each little mitten with a treat and each day after the treat is revealed hang the mitten on your tree…. now if only everything was this easy!
If you have questions, please let me know and we’d love to see photos of YOUR mittens!!
