Hi!  It’s Jen from The Smitten Chicken.  Today I am sharing a project with you that is really special to me.  Last year, I released my very first quilt pattern!  I named it Home.  You can find it here in my Etsy shop.  Why did I name it Home?  I have always loved house quilt blocks.  And I love being home with my family!  Home is my happy place!  Do you want to make this with me?  Grab these supplies and follow along!

There’s No Place Like Home Quilt Instructions

First, you need to assemble the home quilt blocks as stated in the pattern.  I decided to not make the heart centers.  Instead, I cut out Dorothy’s Journey scenes for the center of the home.  Isn’t that little Tin Man so cute?

I also decided to sash the quilt in the yellow brick road fabric instead of the background fabric.  You know, so we can follow the yellow brick road.  Haha

The last change I did was remove a row of the houses! (I actually removed two rows to make the proportions correct on the quilt)  I decided to add the text, there’s no place like home.  It seemed fitting for this Dorothy’s Journey fabric!  Follow along and I will walk you through how to add the text.

First print out the FREE PDF of There’s No Place Like Home.  Keep in mind this is a MIRROR image!  You need it to be a mirror image so the text is the right direction on the quilt.

Trace the letters onto the paper side of the HeatnBond Ultrahold.  Cut out each of the letters, leaving about 1/4″ of HeatnBond around each letter.  Using your iron, press the letters to the WRONG side of the fabric.

Once the letters are pressed, cut each of the letters out on the traced line.  Then peel the paper backing off of the letters.  Place the letters where you would like.  I wanted Home to be the focal point, so I used a different font and centered it.  Since I used HeatnBond Ultrahold Fusible Adhesive, it is NO-SEW!  Press and you are done!

With the holidays fast approaching, I think this quilt is perfect for this time of year!  And I want to keep it out all year!  Because there’s really no place like home!

Thanks for following along today!  Tag me with your Home projects!  I would love to see them!  If you would like to see more of what I’m up to, check out my blog, Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest!

Chirp Out!

Jen
