I’ve always imagined decorating a Christmas tree with whimsical, sweet treat ornaments, either handmade or store-bought. I love that Christmas in July reminds me that it’s time to get started on those handmade ornaments!

It’s time to get creative so gather your supplies and tools, and don’t forget to download the template I’ve created to help you along with this project! TOW Felt Ornaments PDF Pattern

SUPPLIES:

TOOLS:

  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors

GETTING STARTED:

1. Download and print the template.  Print actual size – DO NOT “fit to page” or “shrink to fit.” You will find everything you need to create all four ornaments.

Cut out each part as indicated on each pattern piece to make a full set of ornaments. Cut out an extra “jelly center” piece to make the cherry on top of the cupcake or cut two triangle pieces to make a wafer cookie.

2. Cut two pieces of StitchNsew Sew-In Fleece to create the cookie. This will give your ornament some volume. Cut the fleece 1/4″ smaller than the cookie base so that the Fleece doesn’t peak out.

3. You can work in layers for each ornament, assemble the front of the ornament before stitching the front to the back. A variety of hand-stitching techniques can be used for assembly. For this specific project, my favorites are the blanket stitch and the running stitch.

4. Use DecoFoil Liquid Adhesive to create a freehand design, let the adhesive dry, then use DecoFoil Transfer Sheets to add sparkle to your ornament!

5. Fill your ornament with stuffing and close the opening.

6. I used metallic thread to create a loop for hanging the ornament, but embroidery floss or ornament hooks can also be used.

Thank you for joining me in making these sweet treat Christmas ornaments that I think both adults and children will enjoy creating together. I hope I’ve inspired you to make something fun and whimsical! If you enjoyed this project, please let me know by posting a comment. Also, don’t forget to stop by my Instagram and say HI!
