For two cards, I used a similar technique for both of them, so let’s start with the card that I did differently!

Summer Card Trio Instructions:

Color your transfer gel with a mist, paint or another medium.  The color will be lighter than what you expect, so just play around to get it the color you want.  This was for the sailboat card, but I used a pink and yellow for this card.  (I used mists for the following two cards)

Fasten your stencil down onto your paper, so that it’s flat against the paper.  I used washi tape.  Smear your Deco Foil Transfer Gel across stencil, filling in the open areas. For the card below I used pink first on half the stencil and then applied yellow over the other half. Let dry until shiny.

In this close-up, you can see where the yellow started over the pink (see the orange in the second butterfly?  And for this card, I left the transfer gel to dry and then just added a few embellishments and pattern paper to make a cute quick card.

Summer Deco Foil Transfer Gel Card #2

This next card was made by mixing mist with transfer gel.(see above photo)

After the transfer gel, mixed with mist dried,  I wasn’t sure if I liked the blue color or not. Here’s what it looked like when it was finished drying. More of a gray blue than I wanted!  As a side note, my mist was a deep navy.

So, I reach for some Gina K Ink and decided to go over the paper with it.  This did color the transfer gel slightly, but not much. And I was happier with this color!

I put my card front together using 3D Foam Adhesive Squares and a Sticky Dot Tape Runner. I used a couple of Zots in small to hold my ribbon ends in place while I was putting together my card front.  You can see below how the color changed when completely dried after inking.

I love how this turned out.  The stencil is actually for a winter depicting snow and flurries!

Summer Deco Foil Card #3

So, my next card got all kinds of crazy!  I started by just using the transfer gel with a stencil and letting it dry.  No coloring, just clear gel.  I wasn’t sure of a plan going in, most likely just foiling.

Out came the ink again!  I decided to see how it would react as a resist with the ink.  My question was would the transfer gel change color also.  Yes, it does, but it’s a lighter color.

The picture above was after wiping down with a baby wipe.  You can kind of tell here where I have wiped and not.  Then, I am forever the impatient one, and I wanted it dry, so I dug out my heat gun, just to get my paper dry.  While my paper was drying, I thought…hmmm..wonder what will happen if I try to foil??

StepOuts_Transfer_Gel_Summer_Cards_Therm_O_Web_Katrina_Hunt_1000-7

ACK!  It works!  It’s more of a distress look and you need to be VERY CAREFUL as the heat gun gets hot, your transfer gel and paper will get hot.  When rubbing the foil over the hot transfer gel, I used a tissue to rub over the foil, to keep from burning myself!  This is a great alternative if you want to foil and don’t have time to heat up the laminator or don’t have one!

You can see above where the transfer gel melted slightly.  This technique does take several “passes” to get the amount of foiling that you want on there.

In the picture below is the Sticky Dot Tape Runner if you aren’t familiar with it!  It’s a great little goodie to pack in a bag for a class, quick trip to a friend’s house to scrap etc!

And I love how this card turned out.  Although, I  wasn’t sure at first, it turned out to be my favorite of the trio!!
