Hello and welcome!

It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today!  For today’s tutorial, I am sharing how to make a Decorative Bow Pillow embellished with Deco Foil.

Did you know you can use Thermoweb’s Deco Foil on fabrics?  I have used it in several tutorials in the past, and I wanted to share it again with this adorable decorative pillow shaped like a bow.  There are several ways to add Deco Foil to fabrics.  In this tutorial we are using Thermoweb’s Hot Melt Adhesive made specifically for fabric applications.

Snowflake Bow Pillow

Supplies:

Instructions:

Pillow Form

Begin by fusing the soft woven fusible to the wrong side of each piece of fabric.

Next…

Fold the larger piece of fabric in half lengthwise with right sides together (your fabric should measure 12″ by half the wof).  Begin sewing about 3/4 down on the open short side.  Continue sewing down the long edge, across the folded short end, back up the long side and 1/4 of the way down on the final open side of fabric.  You should have a nice opening for stuffing. See the illustration below.

For the smaller fabric, fold along the long edge right sides together (your fabric should measure 13″ x 3 3/4″). Sew down the long open side and across the bottom short side. See the illustration below.

After sewing, clip the corners and turn right side out. Press.  Fold the openings under and press.

Slightly stuff the smaller fabric with fiber fill.  VERY SLIGHTLY.  Flatten out.  Sew the opening of the smaller fabric closed with a ladder stitch or machine stitch it closed. Set aside.

Deco Foil

Create the Hot Melt Adhesive snowflakes using your die cutter.  Follow your specific machines instructions.  To use Hot Melt Adhesive with a die cutter, use the included parchment paper when cutting the shapes.

Next…

Arrange your snowflakes on the pillow top. Place rough side down and use pressing paper over top.  Adhere the snowflakes by pressing with your iron on medium heat for 30 seconds.  Allow to cool completely.  Once cool, remove the protective paper.  Cut the Deco Foil to just larger than each snowflake.  Place on Hot Melt color side facing up. Place parchment paper over top and press for 30-40 seconds on medium heat.  Allow to cool completely.

Once cooled, peel the Deco Foil away to reveal your design!

Assembly

Stuff the pillow form with fiber fill stuffing.  Make sure to not over fill it.  Keep the center of the pillow free of stuffing or you will struggle creating the bow form.

Next…

Wrap the small piece of fabric around the center of the pillow form.  Clip together the ends.  Stitch together.  Turn this piece under to hid stitching when finished.

Finally…

Sew together the open end of the pillow with a ladder stitch.  Adjust the center piece to even out the sides of the bow pillow.

Finished!
