Hello there!  Today, I’m sharing a slimline card inspired by The Little Mermaid and featuring three of the new Fairytale Deco Foil Transfer Sheets.

Slimline Mermaid Card

The colors in the new Fairytale collection are so pretty, and the way the foils change color and shimmer is positively gorgeous!  For my card, I’ve used Peach Princess, Lily Pad, and Glass Slipper Deco Foils.  Even the names are beautiful!

To create my background, I blended with the following colors of distress inks: Tumbled Glass, Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers. Dusty Concord, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot.  I sprayed Pixie Spray onto the back of the Sun Rays Stencil and applied white pigment ink.  I flicked water droplets over the panel, blotted them dry, and left the background to dry.

Foiling an Inked Background

I applied Pixie Spray to the back of the Ocean Stencil.  I really love how this adhesive holds intricate stencils in place without damaging the paper.  With a palette knife, I applied Transfer Gel through the stencil.  Once the gel was fully dry, I used my laminator to transfer Glass Slipper Deco Foil.  Voila!  Sparkly fish!

Adding Deco Foil to Die-cuts

To die-cut the seaweed and seahorse shapes, I used the Build-an-Ocean Dies.  For the seaweed, I chose the new Lily Pad Deco Foil.  I’ve found the best way to add foil to a die-cut shape is to first add foil to a piece of Toner Sheet and then die-cut the shape.  When I’ve done the reverse (die-cut the toner sheet and then foiled the die-cut), the foil does not transfer to any impressions the die left on the die-cut.  To foil the seahorse, I used Deco Foil Foam Adhesive and Peach Princess Deco Foil.  After trimming a piece of Foam Adhesive, I removed one side of the backing sheets, applied the foil, and then die-cut the seahorse.  I love this method because you not only get some dimension but also don’t need to add adhesive to the die-cut.

Assembling the Card

I die-cut my background with the Slimline Card Builder Die and stamped a sentiment from Mermaid Dreams.  I adhered my background to a 3.5″ x 8.5″ white card with Terrific Tape (I like to use a really strong adhesive like the Terrific Tape with Bristol paper).   With my Copics, I colored images from Mermaid Birthday and Mermaid Escape stamp sets.  I adhered to my images with a combination of Mixed Media Adhesive and Gina K. Designs Foam Tape.

To create my sand, I inked up a small piece of Bristol paper with Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy distress inks.  I flicked on water droplets and blotted them dry and then added Brushed Corduroy, which I mixed with a tiny bit of water.  Once that was dry, I die-cut the sand with the Kinetic Straight Waves and Slimline Card Builder Dies.  After adhering the sand with Gina K. Designs Foam Tape, I attached my die-cuts, using Mixed Media Adhesive for the seaweed.

For more sparkle and shine, I attached some clear droplets to my card with Mixed Media Adhesive and brushed Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle Overlay onto my images.

Have a MER-mazing day!
