by Jennifer Long of Sew A Story
This month’s project is full of movement, color, and playful creativity. The Fairy Dreams Dress Up set is one of my favorite kinds of patterns because it invites storytelling and pretend play right alongside sewing. Whether you’re making it for Halloween, dress-up boxes, or a handmade gift, this set offers so many fun details to create.
The project includes wings, a petal skirt, a crown, and a wand. I used a few Therm O Web favorites to add strength and softness where it matters most.

Materials You’ll Need
Fabric and Supplies:
- Coordinating prints for wings, crown, skirt, and wand
- Ribbon, elastic, fiberfill, and a wooden stick or dowel
- Basic sewing tools and embellishments
- Optional: Sparkle Paste or embroidery floss for decorating
Therm O Web Products:
- HeatnBond Fusible Fleece – used inside the wings and crown for softness and strength
- HeatnBond Craft Extra Firm Interfacing – used to reinforce the crown and wings
- Optional: Fabric Fuse or SpraynBond – great for securing tricky ribbons or attaching small decorations
Step-by-Step Highlights
1. Wings
Fuse fleece and interfacing to each wing piece. After assembling, turn and topstitch to create a clean edge. A stitched design or a bit of Sparkle Paste can make them feel magical.
2. Petal Skirt
Each petal is sewn, turned, and topstitched for a clean finish. The petals are attached to a wide elastic waistband so the skirt can slip on and off easily.

3. Crown
The crown is made using two layers of fabric and features both fleece and interfacing for shape. Tie it with ribbons at the back. You can handstitch embellishments or follow the quilting guide included in the pattern.
4. Wand
The wand is made from two star-shaped pieces sewn together, stuffed, and attached to a wooden stick. Ribbons and Sparkle Paste are optional for extra decoration.

Optional Add-Ons
You can customize your Fairy Dreams set with:
- Decorative buttons, trims, or rhinestones
- Hand embroidery or stitching on the wings or crown
- Different ribbon colors to match your child’s favorite palette
