Hello, Daryl of Patchouli Moon Studio here to share this mountain scene quilt with you for Vacation Week here on the Thermoweb Blog. I love visiting Central Oregon and especially the town of Sisters, Oregon. As you drive around the area you might see these majestic mountains: Broken Top, Mt. Washington, the 3 Sisters Mountains: South, Middle & North Sister (or affectionally called: Faith (North) Hope (Middle) & Charity (South).

This quilt pattern comes from my favorite quilt shop, The Stitchin’ Post in Sisters, Oregon. Sisters is a quaint town in Central Oregon and home to the largest annual outdoor quilt show in the world, which happens on the second Saturday every July.

This quilt pattern was created as a Row by Row quilt, however, I made it as a narrow individual quilt that is perfect for hanging above a door. This was from the 2014 Row by Row Experience and I have wanted to make this quilt since then, so thanks to ThermOWeb and Vacation Week, I had a great reason to get this quilt made. It now hangs in our bedroom above the door and I love it!

Scenic Mountains Landscape Quilt Tutorial

Use your ThermOWeb Pressing  Paper on top of your applique to protect it. The Paper is not shown in the photo, but I did use it. I just needed to show this step so you would see I pressed it. I love my turquoise-colored Oliso Iron and matching ironing board cover! Don’t you love the fun colors that Oliso Irons come in? I sure do!

Follow the instructions on the pdf for tracing and cutting. You can refer to the pdf photo or my quilt here as to the placement of the mountain, trees, etc. You can blanket stitch around the mountains and meadows with a blanket stitch, a straight stitch or just quilt the entire scene in place. I blanket stitched the large pieces in place and then I quilted it.

When you are ready to quilt, fuse the HeatnBond Fusible Fleece onto the back of the top and then use SpraynBond to adhere the backing fabric to the other side of the fleece. You are ready to quilt. I love how easy it is to use SpraynBond and how well my quilt stays together for quilting. No more pins!

I hope you have a wonderful vacation wherever you go, even if it is just into your sewing room to create this beautiful mountain scene.
