Hello and welcome!

It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today. Today I am sharing how to make a Reversible Casserole Cover with HeatnBond Fusible Fleece!

With the holiday season coming up, family gatherings and meals together are upon us. Make this holiday season and your table shine with decorative casserole covers.  These covers are reversible so you can make each side for a different season.

Important Note: These covers are decorative only.  Do not heat in microwave or oven. These covers are machine washable.

Reversible Casserole Cover

Supplies:

Materials and instructions for a 9″x13″ dish.

  • HeatnBond Fusible Fleece 18″ x 12″
  • SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Spray
  • 18.5″ x 12.5″ backing fabric
  • 18.5″ x 12.5″ front fabric
    • For this particular cover use the following pieces:
      • 3 different fabrics cut at 2.5″ x width of fabric. Cut each of these in half for a total of 6 strips of fabric approximately 21″ long.
  • 43″ of 3/8″ elastic
  • 2.5″ x 70″ binding fabric
  • Something to round the corners like a plate
  • Safety pin
  • Basic Sewing Notions
  • Oliso Iron

Instructions:

Begin by sewing the 6 strips of fabric together to create the top pieces of fabric.  Once sewn and pressed, trim to 18.5″ x 12.5″.  Next adhere the Fusible Fleece to the wrong side of the fabric. After fusing, use SpraynBond Basting Adhesive to secure the backing fabric to the other side of the fusible fleece.

Next…

Quilt the piece as desired and trim away any stray ends or pieces of fabric that may have shifted. Trim away the 90-degree corners into round corners using a plate or other template. Add the binding to the quilted piece.

Below I have a video demonstration on how to add the binding and elastic.  Prior knowledge on how to sew binding is required.  This skills tutorial visually shows how the curves are sewn. The binding in this project acts as the casing for the elastic.

The trickiest part is sewing the rounded corners.  I did not use bias binding (binding that is cut on the diagonal and is stretchy).  This is a personal preference.  Because of this, there will be a slight fold to the binding on the rounded corners.  It does not affect the design in any way as the elastic scrunches everything together.

Finished!

I am now ready for the upcoming holiday seasons with my reversible casserole cover!

Thank you for visiting today!  Come back soon to see what else will be starting to bloom with Inflorescence Designs!

Starting to bloom by choosing JOY~ Julia
