People have always looked to symbols for hope and today, the rainbow is frequently being used to encourage that hope. Here, in today’s layout, I (Suzanna) have used the rainbow, God’s promise, to symbolize the hope that these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic will bring us to a greater good. That weathering this storm of COVID-19 will bring brighter days. Both storm, top half of the page, and rainbow are created using ThermOWeb product.

The first step in creating this layout is to apply a layer of gesso to white cardstock. Once that is dry, you can begin applying shades of grey to the top of the layout where the “storm” will be with the flock clouds and foiled raindrops. While this is drying, you will want to create your stencil from the above-mentioned digital cut files. I cut this with my Silhouette and a heavy cardstock, 110 pound.

Use Purple tape to secure your homemade stencil to the cardstock and apply a thin layer of DUO transfer gel.

Apply Glitz Glitter Gel

Carefully apply Glitter Gel to each of the corresponding layers of the word rainbow. While you are doing this, make sure that you aren’t running your hand through the top part of the stencil. You also will want to have as little of the stencil with firm contact on your cardstock as you don’t want the DUO gel drying and inadvertently adhering the cardstock stencil to your background. Remove stencil and set aside to dry.

The next step is to work on your flock clouds. I cut the clouds out of scrap paper (with my Silhouette) so that I could use them as a stencil to trace the shape into the back of the flock. Two of each; Blue Sky and White Latte. In my need for dimension on my layouts, I did back the white clouds with the white foam adhesive. I then fussy cut each of the clouds with some fine scissors. I stamped two of the clouds to add a bit of detail to them.

Deco Foil Transfer Gel DUO

By now your DUO gel should be dry. It will be clear when it’s dried and ready for you to use with flock or foil. It will still be tacky so don’t go for the feel of the product. It takes about an hour to set, depending upon how thick the layer of transfer gel you applied. Apply the appropriate size piece of DecoFoil and either run through a manual die cut machine or hot laminator. Because I am using a 12×12 piece of paper, and don’t have a manual die cut machine big enough, I chose to use my hot laminator. Peel away foil and marvel at the sparkle and shimmer you have on your page!

Rainbow of Hope Video Tutorial

There isn’t much more to this layout other than using UltraBond with a metal tip to get into the small nooks and crannies of the letters so you can adhere to the remainder of your quote. Two strips of paper and a label wrap it up!

As per all of my projects, I have a process video that does a much better job of visually showing you how this all came together! Thanks for stopping in today and I hope you have a rainbow of hope to get you through these crazy, pandemic days!
