Hello and welcome!

It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today!  For today’s tutorial, I am sharing how to make a quilt that folds up into a pillow.

Pillow Quilt

Supplies:

Important Note: The size of your pillow will need to be determined by the size of the quilt.  The quilt I am using fits nicely into an 18″ quilt block.  However, a larger quilt may need a bigger quilt block. I suggest folding your quilt like I show below and measuring the size of the folded quilt to determine the size of block you need.

Instructions:

To make the Quilt Pillow, begin by basting the StitchnSew Fleece to the wrong side of the backing fabric with SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Spray.

Next…

Layer the front/quilt block right side facing the backing fabric.  Stitch all the way around, leaving an opening for turning.

Clip the corners and turn the piece right side out.  Press.  Top stitch around the Quilt Pillow.

At this step, you can quilt your Pillow Cover or leave it unquilted. If using StitchnSew Fleece, I suggest quilt it.  If using HeatnBond Fusible Fleece, quilting is optional.

Continue by…

Find the center of your main quilt. Align your Quilt Pillow cover on the bottom center of the quilt.  Place the front of your Pillow Quilt cover facing the backing of the quilt. Stitch around the sides and bottom of the Quilt Pillow cover, leaving the top open. (The top is the side facing the center of the main quilt.) See video below for better visuals.

Important Note: Reinforce the stitching several times at the top on the Quilt Pillow cover.  This area will receive a lot of wear and tear.

Finally…

Fold your quilt and tuck into the pillow!

Finished!

Watch the video below to see how to fold and stuff your Pillow Quilt.

Very cute! Years ago we used to make these and it was called a Quillo. It was always handy to have one in the car.
