Welcome back! Today I’m sharing a mixed media canvas I made to hang for the holidays! I used some of the fab new Deco Foils along with some of my old favorites.
I started by painting the canvas and a couple sheets of cardstock with Pearl White acrylic paint. I knew I wanted white poinsettias and rather than pull out my Gel Press I decided to just paint the cardstock.
While I waited for the canvas and paper to dry, I pulled out a bunch of my gel prints and started running them through with Icy and Birch Deco Foils.
I love how some of the paint from the print shows through and I’m left with a cool used sheet to use on another. If I want even more transfer the first time, I spray the piece with Glitter Dust Spray and wait for it to dry and then run it through. And for an even more shiny piece, some Toner Paper works great. I wanted these to be very distressed though so I used the gel prints. This one is the birch on that gray/black piece.
And this is Icy on white.
When the canvas was dry, I added Transfer Gel Duo through that fab stencil and set it aside to dry again. You’ll need some time for this … you want it to dry to tacky so while you wait a couple hours for it to dry it’s a great time to start die cutting!
Once tacky, I put a book behind the canvas for stability and used the Stencil Pal to apply pressure for the foil transfer.
There were a couple areas that stuck because I didn’t quite wait long enough so I just put the stencil back over it and added more gel and then tried again. It worked great!
I sprayed Silver Glitter Dust over the entire canvas.
I cut some poinsettias from some of the white cardstock deco foiled with Magical Shattered Glass.
I cut the centers and some additional flowers for leaves from one foiled with the Icy… I loved it because it had some of that great aqua color on it.
I love how these poinsettias turned out… the original plan was just white and silvers, but the happy accident of a little bit of aqua was perfect! So I went with it. And check out that bell! That’s one of the dark gel prints with the birch foil…
As was this jingle bell! I even used the little extra pieces as embellishments… I had a lot of fun with this one.
I cut various die cuts and started arranging them onto the canvas and adhering them with foam tape and liquid adhesive.
This sentiment is an oldie but goodie from Lil Inker… I’ve hung onto it because it’s one of my favorites. I cut it from an aqua gel print foiled with the second sheets of the Birch. And that awesome Decorative Circle I placed it on was cut from a white gel print foiled with the icy.
That’s me for today! I can’t wait to put this one out!
Thank you so much for stopping! Be sure to come back again soon for more inspiration!
