This project is fast, easy, and requires no sewing at all—thanks to HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-on Adhesive! In just minutes, you can transform simple kraft paper bags into festive, personalized gift bags that look like they came straight from Santa’s workshop.

What you need:

• HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-On Adhesive
• Fabric Scraps (I used assorted scraps from older holiday collections by Sweetwater for Moda Fabrics)
• Kraft paper bags in assorted sizes/colors
• Oliso Iron
• Olfa Cutting Tools (cutting mat, rotary cutter, small sharp scissors)

How to make a Nifty No-Sew Gift Bag

1. Download and print the Nifty No-Sew Gift Bag PDF

Nifty No-Sew Gift Bags – A Project for the Therm O Web Blog

• Print actual size – do NOT “fit to page” or “shrink to fit.”
• Print on regular printer paper.
• PRO TIP: Skip the tracing! Cut 8½” x 11″ sheets from a HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-On Adhesive Roll and print the templates directly using an Inkjet Printer. This saves time and ensures perfect accuracy for your shapes—just cut, peel, press, and go!

2. Prepare Fabric Templates

• Apply HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-On Adhesive to the back of cotton fabric(s)
  1. Print (using my pro tip) or trace the template shapes from the pattern on HeatnBond UltraHold Iron-on Adhesive.
  2. Loosely cut the shapes apart.
  3. Pre-heat iron to medium heat, no steam.
  4. Place the printed/traced template shapes on the wrong side of fabrics (printed paper, smooth side, should be face up).
  5. Place and hold the iron on the paper for 2 seconds. Repeat until the entire piece is bonded.
  6. Allow it to cool.
  7. Cut out shape (s).

3. Apply the Shapes

• Fuse the template shapes to the kraft paper gift bag.
  1. Preheat iron to medium heat, no steam.
  2. Remove paper backing from the template shape.
  3. Place the template shapes, adhesive side down, on kraft paper bag, layering shapes as indicated.
  4. Press and hold iron for 6 seconds on each section until the entire fabric shape is bonded.
  5. Allow bag to cool.

Mix and match the templates to fit any kraft paper bag size, and have fun personalizing with your favorite fabrics, colors, and embellishments. Want to add extra charm? Just be sure not to give bags with small parts to little ones, as those items can present a choking hazard.
