I thought it would be fun to give out gift bags with the essentials for ringing in 2025. Thinking, of course, of noisemakers, tiaras, those obnoxiously large glasses, and notepads and pens for writing down New Year’s resolutions.
SUPPLIES:
- StitchNsew High Loft Sew-In Feece
- Various quilter’s weight cotton prints, cut into 2.5″ strips
- Cotton lining (about 16″ x20″)
- 13″ zipper or longer
- Thread
- Deco Foil Liquid adhesive
- Deco Foil Tranfer Sheets (I used the color Champaign)
TOOLS:
- Iron & ironing board
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Rotary cutter and self-healing mat
- 5.5″ square quilter’s ruler
GETTING STARTED:
1. Cut 2.5″ wide strips of fabric using a rotary cutter and self-healing mat. Cut a piece of StitchnSew Fleece approximately 16″ x 20″.
2. Using the quilt-as-you-go method, start by laying out and stitching the 2.5″ strips until the entire piece of fleece is covered. Cover the “fleece” side with the lining – wrong side of fabric to fleece. Quilt as desired, I used a straight stitch to mimic the lines of the seams.
TIP: If you need help keeping your quilt sandwich together, use a little SpraynBond Basting Adhesive
3. Trim your quilt sandwich to 12″ x 16″. Finish the 12″ edges using a serger or zigzag stitch. Place the zipper tape over the 12″ side of your quilt sandwich, right side up, so you have an exposed zipper. Topstitch in place. Repeat for the other side.
4. Leave the zipper half open and turn your work wrong side out. Stitch both sides with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Be sure to go slowly over the zipper so you don’t break the needle. Trim the excess zipper tape.
5.Cut two 1″ squares in the corners of the bottom folded edge. Finish the side seams with bias tape.
6. Flatten the corners and stitch across with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Finish the corners with bias tape. Turn your work right side out.
7. Write a sentiment or draw a design with Deco Foil Liquid Adhesive. Allow to dry as directed and apply Deco Foil Transfer Foil for a personalized and stunning effect.
PS. Let the kids help you, you never know how creative they can be!
