Instructions:
The Blocks:
For this project, I thrifted some children’s wooden blocks. At my local thrift store, I actually found a couple sets of these blocks. I used a total of `16 blocks. I only used the unfinished one inch blocks but the other sizes and colors would make a really fun puzzle.
To begin, you will need to prepare your fabric. Cover your pressing area with a protective sheet. Spray your fabric scraps with SpraynBond Fabric Stiffener Spray. You can let this dry naturally or you can use your iron and press it dry.
Once dry and stiff, cut out 1″ squares according to whatever pattern you choose. For several of the blocks I simply did 1″ squares. For others, I cut the squares on the diagonal and made half square triangles.
There are two ways you can adhere the fabric to the blocks.
Option 1: SpraynBond Fusible Adhesive
With option one, you will spray the blocks. Make sure your area is protected. With this method the spray isn’t sticky. This method requires you to apply heat to the adhesive to adhere it. Make sure to use pressing paper.
Option 2: HeatnBond Fabric Fuse Adhesive
With this option, you will apply the adhesive to the block. I used my finger to spread it around. A paint brush would also work. With this method the glue is sticky. This adhesive is air dried, or you can use pressing paper and a hot iron to semi dry the glue.
The Box:
The box is made from thin cardboard. I used the cardboard you find backing charm squares as it was the perfect 5″ I needed. Cut one of the cardboard squared into (4) 1″ strips. Using the tape, build your box sides.
To make the box look more complete and give it a little more structure, I used some PeelnStick Adhesive Sheets and added some ribbon to the outside.
