With the holidays soon upon us, now is the time of year when I’m looking to make a lot of Christmas cards, in not a lot of time. I love stamping and creating elaborate designs for special occasions, but at the holidays, I need quick cards… and lots of them. One of my favorite tips for designing cards quickly is to use pre-printed journaling cards and cut apart sheets that come with most scrapbooking collections. These small cards pack a punch with a focal point, and often a sentiment, all in one. Today I have three-holiday cards to share featuring ideas for using those journaling pieces on your holiday cards this year.

If you all are like me, then you may have compiled lots of pretty papers and collection kits from Christmases past. For today’s cards, I have pulled out two of my most favorite older lines to work with; I Love Christmas from Echo Park Paper, and Dear Santa from Photo Play Paper. Nothing feels better than to try to use up some of the ol’ stash. I Love Christmas has some adorable cut apart cards in the collection pack, which I’ve used here, mixed with patterned papers from both lines and lots of crisp white cardstock from Therm O Web.

The cut apart cards look great all on their own, but for a different twist, I added a bit of framework to the top of the card to create a window peek-a-boo look for that cute elf. I added a scalloped border along the bottom for a bit of interest, and die cut the circle out of the center using the smallest circle die from the Small Circle die set by Gina K Designs. The panel was then popped up for dimension using Therm O Web double-sided foam adhesive sheets.
The second card also features a cut apart journaling card for the focal point, this time layered onto GinaK Designs cardstock, and accented with small photo corners I cut from a square of patterned paper. Small accents like these, and the small sentiment strip I added below, are easy to adhere with Therm O Web Zots Bling adhesive dots… small enough to attach even the tiniest of embellishments.
I added a bit of extra detail to the top corner of the card using a piece of scalloped border again, and a few small paper strips. The focal panel is once again popped up with iCraft foam adhesive, the perfect foam that won’t flatten out, even when put through the post.
My last card features another sentiment strip and more paper photo corners to dress up the journaling card. And this time, I added a fussy cut round label and twine bow, as well as an enamel dot for the reindeer’s nose, too. And if you’re planning on sending your cards through the mail, be sure to attach even your sticky enamel dot accents with an extra Zots dot to ensure they stay firmly in place.
