Halloween is the perfect time to dress things up and add a little something extra to your projects! Make it creepier, funnier or cuter- embellishments take your project and make it MORE! For example, these trick or treat tote bags go from being darling to being absolutely amazing!!
Make Custom Halloween Felt Embellishments with Deco Foil
Today, I’m going to show you how to use Deco Foil to add a little something extra to any of your creations!
You can find the tutorial for the trick or treat totes over on my blog: Ameroonie Designs.
Here’s how to take your projects up a notch:
First, decide what images you want to turn into embellishments. You can download the images I used here either as a pdf or SVG file to use with your electronic cutting machine.
You will need:
Deco Foil Transfer Sheets – Black and Silver (Opal would be fun too!)
freezer paper and felt
Halloween fabrics Cats, Bats, and Jacks from Riley Blake Designs
Custom Halloween Embellishment Tips:
My favorite tip to share about cutting out felt is to first trace your shape onto the paper side of freezer paper. You will also need to trace the smaller shapes onto the paper side of the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive.
Shown on the left: Cut around the shape you will be cutting out of felt. Using a medium-heat iron with no steam, press the wax side of the freezer paper onto the felt. Cut out your shape out of felt and then pull off the freezer paper.
Shown on the right: Trace the foil shape onto the DecoFoil hot melt adhesive and then cut out the shape.
Follow the directions to adhere the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive to the felt shape, using the parchment paper provided. Cut out a piece of Deco Foil slightly larger than your shape and again, follow the directions to adhere the foil to your felt.
I love how the black foil gives the felt a look of leather, it’s so cool!
The final step is to sew or glue your embellishment onto your project. I love stitching between the foil and the edge of the felt to give the foil a nice outline.
The silver is perfect for the ghost, or would be super cool on a skull!
You could also create embellishments using the same technique, but swap out the Deco Foil for fabric and the Deco Foil Hot Melt Adhesive for Heat n Bond Lite- so very many possibilities!
So, what are you going to go out and embellish? We would love for you to share!! xoxo, Amy
