Hello everyone! Tammy with you today bringing you a mini wall hanging that has lots of vintage finds and easy to assemble.
I found these letters (“love”) at one of my local antique store and they have been sitting in my bin for a while now just waiting for that idea as to what to do with them to pop in my head. You could use some fabric strips to spell the word love as well. The “O” is a doily.
Start with a piece of linen, backing fabric and fleece batting all cut to about 18″ X 17″. Arrange the letters in the center of the linen trace with a water soluble pen at the top of the letters “the greatest is” a grid in the middle of the letters and a heart at the bottom of the letters centered. I tried and tried to get them to show up better in the photos but no luck, you can just barely see the heart if you look close. Hand stitch the wording with green cotton floss, the grid in a pale yellow and the heart in pink.
Once the hand stitching is done, remove the letters and layer the piece of fleece batting, the linen and backing fabric (RST). Machine stitch all the way around leaving about four to five inches open at the bottom for turning. Clip corners, turn, press and top stitch all the way around the front. Quilt two lines one inch apart for the border around the wall hanging. Now comes all the embellishments… normally I would have appliqued my letters in the beginning (before turning) but, my letters are very bulky and I did not want to risk them coming apart during the turning process.
I then trail fit my layout. For the border, I took three 5″ X 5″ pieces of fabric, folded them in half and layered them just at the bottom of the wall hanging then layering a piece of lace and some heart lace, pinned them all together and machine stitched the layers together.
Trace all the letters including the doily onto the back side of some HeatnBond Lite, cut and applique the letters as shown (I pressed firmly from the back of the wall hanging). Applique the butterfly and make two lines of stitching down the butterfly. Add a piece of lace above the “L” and another small piece of lace with a mini safety pin to the left side of the hand stitching.
Adhere a tiny piece of lace in the middle of the doily and then adhere a pearl heart using some fabric glue.
Just below the “V” applique a flower with leaves and machine stitch a row of hearts from felt at the bottom center of the wall hanging.
Applique a “handmade” label and house just below the “E”.
Enjoy your wall hanging!!!
