Live Free Turtle Canvas
by Heather Collins
My dream is someday to go to the beach where the water is as blue as the sky. To swim with wildlife and be free. Can you imagine being free of the weight of the world, even for a moment? And just to “Live Free”. To the outside world, we appear like a sea turtle, hard on the outside, but really we are just as soft under that tough outside appearance.
To start this project I created my own pattern of a sea turtle. I gessoed all of the pieces of my image. After it was air-dried, I painted the ocean. I used Brutus Monroe Sand Paste for the beach part of my ocean.
Next, I attached Rina K Designs Foil Flock Sheets in Screamin’ Green to iCraft Deco Foil Foam Sheets for parts of the turtle. I did the same with Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets – Tuscan Gold for the shell of the turtle. Last I attached Deco Foil Transfer Sheets in Emerald Watercolor to another piece of the Deco Foil Foam Sheets. Using my fussy cutting scissors I cut all of my pieces.
Then using a palette knife I applied Rina K Designs Neon Glitz Glitter Gel in Screamin’ Green. To do the eyes on the turtle I used the iCraft Metallix Gel Pewter.
I let everything dry overnight before attaching my pieces using Gina K Designs Foam Tape and simply peeling off the back of the foam sheets.
The turtle was attached to the ocean using the iCraft mixed media adhesive. To finish the piece I added the title “Live Free” after die cutting out the letters Rina K Designs Neon Flock Sheets Screamin’ Green and peeling the back off the foam. May we all live free one day.
