Recently on the ThermOWeb blog, we have been collaborating with Moda fabrics, sharing projects made with some of their recent releases. I created this heart studded baby quilt from the “Just Another Walk In The Woods” collection along with HeatnBond Lite Fusible Adhesive.

Baby Quilt Instructions:
Here are the instructions on how to make this block:
- Begin by using a charm pack to make half square triangles. Place two patterned squares right sides together, draw a line down the diagonal, and stitch 1/4″ on each side of the line. Then cut the squares in half on the line to create 2 HST blocks. Trim to 4 1/2″ square.
- Use a scrap piece of paper to draw a heart shape (or use a template) to fit on the HST square. The block will be on point. Cut 18 hearts out of white background fabric.
- Use the same template to cut 18 hearts out of HeatNBond® Lite, and adhere to the back of each white heart. Center the heart on the seam of the HST and iron on using the recommended settings. Machine applique around the edge of each heart.
- To complete the rest of the block, cut the following from white printed fabrics strips from the jelly roll: four 2.5″x4.5″ rectangles, and four 2.5″x2.5″ squares.
- Using the jelly roll strips again, find the two strips match the prints of your center HST block. From those 2 prints, cut four squares 2.5″x2.5″.
- On the two 2.5″x4.5″ white rectangles, add a printed square to each end and stitch on a diagonal creating a flying geese block. Be sure to pay attention to match the colors of the prints on the correct side of the square.
- Complete the block by sewing first in rows, and then the rows together.
- Cut sashing strips from white background fabric 1.5″x8.5″ sew to to right edge of the block. Sew the block together in diagonal rows attaching at the sashing as shown below.
- Since these block are point, we need triangles of white background fabric to sew at the ends of each diagonal row. Cut a 9″ square of fabric on the diagonal to create the triangles and sew on the ends of each rows of blocks.
- For the corner stones, cut one small rectangle from a printed fabric 1″x1.5″ and another square of the same fabric at 1″x1″. Cut a square from white fabric of 1″x1″.
- Sew the corner stones in between pieces of sashing and create longs strips of alternating sashing and corner stones that go along between the diagonal rows.
- Once the quilt top has been pieced, layer the top, batting and backing fabric and quilt as desired. I used a freezer paper method, cutting orange peel shapes from freezer paper and ironing them on with my Oliso iron. After stitching around the shapes, they can be removed and used again.
- Finish the quilt by adding a scrappy binding. I used charm pack squares and cut them into 2.5″ squares which I sewed together in long strips for the binding.
