We are featuring projects with pre-cut fabrics this week on the Thermoweb blog. Today, Carla from Creatin’ in the Sticks is here to share a quick idea to use jelly roll strips for key fobs.
Hi everyone! Carla here from Creatin’ in the Sticks. I make lots of quilts with pre-cuts and love how quickly those projects can be made. However, what I have a lot of is scraps from those projects. Here is a fun way to use those leftover jelly roll strips – Fabric Key Chains. They go together in a snap and make great little gifts too. Let’s get started.

Jelly Roll Key Chains Sewing Instructions:
please read through the complete instructions before starting
Step 1:
Cut 2 strips of interfacing, 2 1/2″ x 14″. Next, follow the package instructions to bond the interfacing to the wrong side of the strips of fabric.
Step 2:
Pin the strips right sides together and stitch on one 14″ side 1/4″ from the raw edge to form a 4 1/2″ x 14″ rectangle. After the stitching is complete, press the steam open. Next, fold the outside raw edges to the middle and press.
Fold the fabric strip again to encase the raw edges and press. The strip’s measurement is about 1″ x 14″. Slide the D ring onto the strip.
Step 3:
Unfold the ends of the strip and pin the right sides together matching the seams. Stitch 1/4″ from the raw edges.
Now, refold the strip and press to form a loop with the D ring still in place.
Step 4:
Edgestitch both sides of the loop. Slide the D ring around as the stitching is done.
Stitch another line of stitching in the middle of the strip loop.
Step 5:
Slide the D ring so that the seam that formed the loop is about 1/2″ from the straight side of the ring. Stitch across the seam several times to secure the D ring.
Finally, add the keyring to the D ring.
These are so nice to hold on your wrist. Once you make one, you will have to make a bunch.
Have fun making them and giving them away!
