Join us this week as we’re going green. Green is the color of life as it signifies growth, nature and health. And for us, it also means spring and taking care of the earth we live on. This week we’ll focus on a bit of those plus we’d be remiss if we didn’t include some St. Patrick’s Day goodies as well!

It’s Not Easy Being Green Ceramic Frog with Deco Foil

By: Heather Collins

There is something about Spring that refreshes my soul.  Maybe it’s the longer daylight, the warmer weather, or everything seemingly coming alive that is just happy to be alive.  I remember sitting on my parent’s porch as a child listening to the little peepers, the little frogs that lived in the lake nearby.  So for my first 2022 springtime project, I decided to create a little frog that would be bright all year round.

I first started by purchasing a paint your own kit from Target. I didn’t really use the paints that came with it but bought a few different ones, this way I could have a little shading.  The nice thing is I didn’t have to prep the ceramic frog at all.  Just paint it and let it dry.

Next, I took the Deco Foil Adhesive Pen and primed it.  You do this by taking off the cap, holding down the adhesive tip for about 30 seconds.

You will see some adhesive coming out, so I did this on a spare sheet of paper.  Then I colored on my dry ceramic frog where I wanted to have foil.  And let it dry for about 30 seconds to a minute.

Then I took one sheet of my Brutus Monroe Transfer Sheets – Copper Ripples and placed it pretty side up where I had colored with the pen and lightly rubbed with my fingers.  I did this wherever I “colored”.  Remove the top sheet and this will leave behind the rubbed on foil.  Repeating these steps till I got the look I wanted.

Believe it or not, that’s all you have to do.  If you want this to withstand the outside weather, you want to spray on some type of sealer, otherwise, that’s all!  And this is a fun kids’ craft idea too!
