Hello and welcome! It’s Julia from Inflorescence Designs! I’m so joyful you are visiting today. Today on the blog I am featuring an adorable Stuffed Unicorn!
Today’s project is a collaboration between Island Batik, Funky Friends Factory and Thermoweb. I chose to make Kelsey the Keepsake Unicorn pattern from Funky Friends Factory because my youngest LOVES unicorns.
I haven’t dabbled too much in making stuffed animal toys so I was a bit hesitant on how well my unicorn would turn out. Well, let me tell you, the Funky Friends Factory pattern made it so easy to make! The unicorn pattern in particular has online step by step photos that help you through the process if written instructions are not your forte and you prefer a visual aide.
The fabrics I used were an assortment of batiks provided by Island Batik.
I used Thermoweb’s HeatnBond Soft Woven Fusible for Batiks interfacing. The interfacing made using batiks for this project even easier! Batiks by nature do not have a “wrong” or ” right” side of fabric. You can use either side. The interfacing made piecing the pattern using batiks easier because I knew which pieces were or were not in reverse. I also used their HeatnBond Fabric Fuse. This was a game changer for adding the flower embellishments to the top.

Instructions:
Follow the instructions provided by the pattern from Funky Friends Factory. Below I have some tips and tricks that helped me piece some parts. Before I cut out my fabric patten pieces, I fused HeatnBond Soft Woven Fusible for Batiks on to one side of the fabric.
When piecing the strong curves like the muzzle and hooves, I used glue basting. Glue basting is a game changer for piecing curves. You can check out how I glue baste curves HERE.
For the embellishments like the flowers and mane, I used HeatnBond Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive. It helped baste the mane so hand stitching was easier and gave added adherence to the flowers.
Making this stuffed friend was so much fun. What was even more fun were the adventures this little unicorn and I had when taking photos. Check out the “Adventures of Celestial Reign” over on my blog Inflorescence Designs!
