Welcome to International Scrapbook Day 2021!
It’s hard to believe how long we’ve been scrapbooking but if you want to know…since 1998! And we remember the very day we fell in love with it and haven’t looked back since. Endless scrapbook albums fill the shelves along with fun mini albums and more. It’s amazing to gather up our family and sit and go through the albums and have moments that happened over 20 years ago feel like yesterday thanks to those scrapbook pages.
This year we’ve teamed up with our friends at Photo Play Paper and Page Maps for a bit of fun!
First…a Page Maps Challenge thanks to Becky Fleck and her wonderful sketches she’s been creating for 15 years THIS month! In fact, be sure to go visit them for all the celebrations happening! We’d like to wish Becky and Page Maps a Happy 15th Anniversary.
Sketches are a wonderful way to begin your scrapbook page. All too often we hear people say they don’t know where to start. So here are some tips…
1. Gather up a selection of photos. Perhaps from an event like a birthday, vacation, or a theme…visit the ice cream shop, new haircut, baseball game…you get the idea.
2. Then take a look at your supplies…perhaps first go by the theme and see what you have that fits a birthday, vacation etc. Then take it one step more and select supplies that coordinate with the colors in your photos.
3. Next slim down your photos…perhaps if you have five pictures but three are the same…use one of the three you like best plus the other two.
4. Then the fun part…take a look at the Page Maps sketches and see which one will work with the photos you have. Do your pictures run vertically, horizontally, a mix of both…let those help you pick a sketch.
5. Now let’s get started laying out the page with the sketch as a guide and go from there…
For today we’re working with two NEW sketches from the May Page Maps!
We invite YOU to join in the sketch challenge with a scrapbook page made with one of these two Page Maps from the May 2021 release. Then use some of our Therm O Web products. Best if we can see them…so that means our Deco Foil, Deco Foil Toner Sheets, and Card Fronts (yes they work great on scrapbook pages!), Deco Foil Flock, Gina, and Rina K. Designs products, and of course Brutus Monroe supplies. Include some or lots of those products on your layout featuring one of the two sketches and then link us to your project via your own blog, Instagram account, Facebook page, or right here in our blog comments. We’ll give you through the 9th of May to share your project and will announce a winner on Thursday, May 13th.
What will you win you ask?
That’s right! Our sweet friends at Photo Play Paper have offered up their adorable Fern & Willard Collection (we have more ideas coming next week with this collection) plus the stamps, dies, and coordinating stencil! And that’s not all…we’re giving you a $30 Gift Card to shop with us. So you can pick up our Deco Foil DUO Transfer Gel and some fun colors of our Deco Foil Flock and Foils to use with that adorable stencil!
And don’t miss the added giveaways each week at Photo Play Paper! Just tag your projects and get yourself entered to win goodies from BOTH companies!
How about some inspiration for you before you create your own project?
Andrea Shell created this cutie using the single-page sketch.
Here’s a little info from Andrea:
I combined older papers from Close To My Heart, Simple Stories, and MFT Stamps. The clouds are from a Whimsy Stamps die set and were created with White Latte Flock. I used Iridescent Glitz Glitter Gel (mixed with distress ink) for the sun rays and Teal Deco Foil on the Blossom Buddies Slimline Toner Card Front.
And why not make a card with one of the Page Maps sketches? This beauty from Ellen Haxelmanns has us thinking we should always include a photo on our future card projects!
Suzanna Lee tackled the two-page Page Maps sketch which sometimes is a challenge in itself as it’s a lot of space to cover be it with photos or embellishments. Suzanna shared on her layout some of the things she wants to remember about her scrapbooking…designing for us and Elle’s Studio and a few of her favorite layouts. Such a fun idea!
Amanda also created a card based off the Page Maps sketches! Visit her blog for more info on her adorable card she’s made today!
Katrina wowed us with her single-page layout using our Black Glitz Glitter Gel for that striking background. Talk about incredible!!
Larissa was inspired by the scrapbook sketches and created two incredible cards using our NEW Time To Fly Card Fronts and our Deco Foil Rainbow Shattered Glass! (one of our best sellers!) We love those foiled butterflies and that pretty layer of vellum!! Amazing right?
Be sure to join us today on Instagram for more ideas and inspiration using the two Page Maps sketches and also learn a bit more about how some of our fab designers started scrapbooking. No matter if you start today or years ago…remember you’re preserving memories…and that’s a good thing! Happy International Scrapbook Day from all of us at Therm O Web!
