Valentine Tea Towel

Hello! It’s Stephanie from Sissy Belle Sews, back with another fun tea towel tutorial for you! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I thought I would share a fun, and somewhat non-traditional, pattern to put a smile on your face on I Love You day. There are lots of ways to show someone you love them. You could tell them, of course, take them somewhere nice, or do something sweet for them, like cook them breakfast in bed. For me, the way to my heart is often through food, so I designed this fun little project that I will most certainly use when cooking for my loved ones on Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoy it!

Supplies Needed

Sewing Instructions

  • Cut out template shapes and trace them on the wrong side of the fabrics to be appliqued. Cut out the shapes close to the drawn line, but leave a little extra for a seam allowance.
  • Cut a piece of HeatnBond Interfacing roughly the same size as each template shape. Place the bumpy side of the interfacing to the right side of the fabric, and stitch along the drawn line.

  • Trim off excess interfacing and fabric.
  • Cut a small opening in the interfacing of each shape and turn fabric right side out through the opening.
  • Arrange fabric pieces on the fat quarter that will be the front of the towel. Press in place. For the egg, press and fuse the white first, then press on the yolk.

  • Hand stitch or machine stitch around each fused shape. Embellish with buttons for eyes, and use embroidery thread to stitch on eyelashes and mouth. Machine stitch arms and legs using a dark thread.

  • Sew the piece of ribbon on the top right corner of the fat quarter that will be the towel back.

  • With right sides together, sew the tea towel front to the back, leaving a 6″ opening along the bottom edge for turning.
  • Turn right side out through opening and top-stitch close to the edge all the way around.

  • Cook up something for the ones you love and enjoy!
