Hello there! Amanda from Jedi Craft Girl here bringing you a bright and cheery quilting project! This little quilt is made up of hourglass blocks and flower applique blocks. I’m using Heat n Bond® Ultra to adhere the flowers so I don’t have to sew around each one! This quilt measures 28″ square and is perfect to hang on a wall or place on a table. Let’s get started!
Project Supplies:
Heat n Bond® Ultra No-Sew Fusible Adhesive
At least 10 fat quarters. I used Manderley by Moda
3/4 yard solid white fabric
1/3 yard binding
1 yard backing
Sizzix flower die
Sizzix triangle die
Project Instructions:
First let’s make the hourglass blocks. I used the Sizzix hourglass triangle die for quick and perfect piecing. If you choose to make the hourglass block the traditional way, the finished block needs to measure 4 1/2″ square. Each hourglass block should have 2 white triangles and then 2 patterned triangles. You will need 25 hourglass blocks.
Mix up your fabrics to get a scrappy look! I didn’t plan this out at all.
To make the flower blocks, iron a 4″ square of Heat n Bond Ultra to the back of each of the flower fabrics.
Die cut the desired flower with the Sizzix Fabi. Make 24 flowers.Peel off the backing paper. Cut (24) 4.5″ squares from the white fabric. Heat set a flower in the center of each square. No need to sew around each flower because the Heat n Bond® Ultra is permanent!Once all the blocks are finished, lay them out according to this diagram:
Using 1/4″ seams, sew each block together in rows and then the rows together to form the quilt top. Quilt as desired. I quilted right through the flowers which will help the applique hold up over time and washing.
I love how the little quilt looks with the octopus pillow! Perfect for a teenagers room!!!
