With spring in the air, cleaning up-creating-and crafting are in full swing! My friends first little one is due right in the heart of spring so I just had to whip up a cute onesie set using Thermoweb’s Heat N Bond® Iron-On Fusible Adhesive.
Don’t have a fancy cutting machine? No worries! This tutorial doesn’t require one. It’s a great project even for kids to help out with and can be adjusted to kids t shirts or any fabric project. I know I’ve got my eye on making a no-sew spring pennant using this same method!
-White baby onesie
-Fat eighth of a fabric or two
–Oliso Iron
-Thermoweb Heat n Bond® Lite
-Printer paper, Scissors
-Sewing machine and Thread (optional)
-Baby Leggings
Start by picking out a clip art or font that you want to use as your appliqué. Print it out in black ink at the size that will fit inside your onesie with room on the side.
Step Two:
Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than your image. Iron it out.
Cut a piece of Heat n Bond® Lite Fusible Adhesive slightly smaller than your fabric square. Trace your shape onto the paper side of the Heat n Bond® and cut out. (You could also use the HeatnBond® EZ Print Sheets and print the pattern directly onto the sheet.) Iron it to the fabric by using the instructions on the back of the package.
Step Three:
Peel off the paper backing and place the design where you want it on the onesie. Once you like the placement iron it down.
Optional: If you want your design to be more stable, use your sewing machine to sew around the edge at 1/8″ to secure it down.
Step Four:
Pair with a cute pair of knit leggings (I made mine using this pattern) and snap some cute pictures! And then use this technique to make tons of quick customized bags, clothes, and home decor!
