Happy Birthday, Rock Star! Scrapbook Layout

by Heather Collins

I have been on a major cleaning spree lately.  The best part of cleaning is rediscovering crafty items that you lost or forgot about, sometimes they become my favorite.  One of these types of items is my wooden script stamp.  Since I do a lot of mixed media I find myself using it on almost every project that I have done since finding it.  And the best part is it seems to work in all of them.  I have been trying to do scrapbook pages that bring me joy, the kids’ birthdays are these types of projects that fit this idea.

When I work on a scrapbook page, I collect as many papers as I can think of. So when I first started working on this page I probably picked out about 20 pages, but I was having issues finding just the right one.  Because I know I have run into this problem before, I always add a few pages of white into the papers I like to interview.  Because I was in a little bit of a crafty mental block, I decided to take the advice of my child, (the one that that in the photo) and focus on doing what I enjoy and see if something sparkled…and it did!

To start this project I think what works best is trimming 1/2″ inch from two sides of the main paper, this allows 1/4″ of the paper underneath to play ‘Peek a Boo’ around the edges.  Next, I took the script stamp I found in my craft house and stamped it so it could peek out from under the photo I was going to use and I stamped one of the images with “Pink Fresh Ink – Pink” and “Brutus Monroe Raven Detail Black Ink”.

Next I took Simon Hurley Creates Lunar Paste-Prom Queen and using a pallet knife put the image of the “Brutus Monroe Flower Compass” on the paper.  I sprayed Brutus Monroe Chroma Mist Neon Pink Glow.  Then let dry.  After everything was dry, I roughed up the edges of the paper and used the Pink Fresh Ink – Pink and attached it to the bigger cardstock.

Then die cut out “Tim Holtz Sizzix Crochet Thinlits Dies 664178” with the Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets, Pink Carnation.  I added a piece of glitter cardstock under my photo.  The Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets, Pink Carnation I placed under my image using the Gina K Designs Double-sided Adhesive Foam Tape, White, then attached this to the center of my page.

I attached American Crafts Thickers “Get Together” stickers, this allows a bold sentiment and gems from one source.  Lastly, I cut and rolled cardstock that I had cut at 1.5″ and attached using iCraft UltraBond Permanent Dries Clear Glue. Then I had some Deco Foil Transfer Sheets, Gold that I had attached with a laminator to Deco Foil Toner Sheets and cut out flames, I did this seven times for the 7th birthday of 2014.

So remember how I was saying take old favorites to your craft project, then add new goodies, where here it comes.  Therm O Web and Brutus Monroe teamed up for a great product line, that I know I will be using and hoarding for many years to come.

I used the NEW Brutus Monroe Adhesive Transfers and cut out the shapes I wanted to use.  Then took one side of the plastic piece off and placed it on my page where I wanted them.

Because this product can be applied anywhere I placed some on the pictures themselves and others around the page.  Then to add I added pressure, to get a more even look you could use your laminator or die cutting machine but my page is messy and distressed, so I just used my finger and the cap of my scissor and rubbed.  Then took the clear piece off and this exposed the ‘sticky shape’, the plastic with the black print will go away at this point.

Lastly take one sheet of the foil of your choice, for this layout I used Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets, Copper Ripples and my finger and rubbed and the foil transferred to where the sticky shapes were.  And bam a perfect product and a great way to have a product using old favorites and new ones!

This was the perfect page for this picture and a great way of getting to know those crafty goodies that are just in arm’s reach if one looks for them! Then add new favorite craft goodies for just the perfect layout!
