Spring is full of special celebrations such as Mother’s Day, Teacher Appreciation Day, and wedding showers, which often require multiple table centerpieces and other decorations. This idea found on Pinterest is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to create something a bit different from the usual floral arrangement.

A coating of Glitter Dust™ spray will add sparkle to your table for a daytime or evening event and is the perfect finishing touch to these pine cone flowers.

Project Instructions:

Step 1 – Choose your pine cones. The bottom of the pine cone will be facing up, so look for ones where the petals are tightly spaced. If you are using pine cones found outside and are worried about bugs, try baking them in a 200 degree F oven on a foil lined tray for about 30 minutes and then allow to dry for a few days before proceeding.

Step 2 – Paint the pine cones with acrylic craft paint. A foam brush works well for applying paint to the outside of the pine cone quickly while a brush with a longer handle is helpful for painting between the petals. Try mixing two or more colors for a more natural look, but remember that part of the fun of this project is that anything goes – this is a great way to create “flower” centerpieces in any color you like. This would be cute in school colors for a graduation party or end-of-season team banquet.

Step 3 – Once the paint is dry, spray the cones with Glitter Dust™ in the color of your choice. The sample shown here was sprayed with Iridescent Glitter Dust. One of the best things about using Glitter Dust™ is that it allows the base colors to show through and the effect is a lovely shimmer, rather than something that has a heavy coat of glitter. To add more glitter, spray the pine cones multiple times until the desired effect is achieved. To minimize mess, place the pine cones in a cardboard box before spraying.

If desired, use Zots™ Adhesive Dots to attach buttons or gems to the center of the pine cone flowers.
